Our Resources Page contains many helpful links to get anyone started, including FEMA's Guidance Documents, NFIP Resource Library, Georgia DFirm Flood Risk Viewer, and much more. Individual county's floodplain maps and Flood Insurance Reports can be found on the Map Service Center .
Continuing Education Credits (CECs) are awarded by organizations to ensure that their certified professionals are credible, up-to-date, and informed. Generally, these professionals will need a certain amount of CECs each renewal period to be able to renew their certification or license. CECs can be obtained by attending courses, conferences, or other related technical workshops. ASFPM's Certified Floodplain Manager certification is the most common across our membership, but many professional organizations require CECs. Please check out our events page for upcoming events that may grant CECs!
To maintain CFM status with ASFPM, one must obtain a minimum of 16 CECs over a two-year period. To see the detailed list of CFM renewal requirements, please check out ASFPM's Certification Maintenance & Renewal page here.
The Association of State Floodplain Managers (ASFPM) is a scientific and educational nonprofit organization dedicated to reducing flood loss in the nation and a catalyst organization for the creation of state chapters. While both ASFPM & GAFM center floodplain management and hazard mitigation, GAFM seeks to connect local professionals in these fields and the topics discussed may be unique to Georgia. GAFM currently falls into the ASFPM Chapter District 3 alongside the following states/ organizations:
GAFM memberships run from January 1st to December 31st of each year. You will have until January 15th to renew your membership before late fees are added onto your account. If your account is not renewed by January 31st, your account will expire.
If you become a member after July 1, then your membership dues will apply to membership for the remainder of the current year and all of the following year. Membership is non-refundable and non-transferable. If you have any questions regarding your membership, please contact the webmaster here. GAFM is a nonprofit, volunteer run organization, so we are always looking for passionate people to get involved. One of the best ways to get more involved is to join a committee or sub-committee! Please check out our Committees Page to see where your talents may be a good fit. If you are interested in joining a committee, please reach out to the GAFM Chair using this hyperlink.
Another great way to get involved is to consider joining the GAFM Board. Our board positions include Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, Treasurer, Regional Representative, and At-Large Representative. Not every board position is up for election every year, but please reach out to your Regional Representative if you would like to know more about what is happening in your region.
